DIY: ReUpholster Chairs & Headboard

I went to Joann's Fabric to select the perfect fabric for my chairs and headboard. I went with the top gray fabric from Dwell Studio for the Dinning Chairs and the middle Linen with Blue Circle design also from Dwell Studio for the Bedroom Headboard.
Upholstery Tools: A good pair of  Fabric Scissors, Staple Gun and of course the fabric of your choice.
It is important to measure out and make the fabric taut before you start stapling!
Before: Vinyl Marbled Blue | After: Modern and Chic Gray

For the Headboard I took an Old Canvas Tapestry and REUSED the frame to attach my New more Modern and Chic Fabric from Dwell Studio.

Voila! Beautifully Dressed Bedroom and Dining Chairs!

Design Tips : Fabric Care

While you can't anticipate the guest who will spill his or her beverage or the child who will drip ice cream on your living room sofa, there are some basic upholstery care tips that will keep your furniture looking new longer:
  • Vacuum your upholstered furniture weekly, using a furniture brush and the extension that enables you to reach into corners for crumbs and dust.
  • Direct sunlight will fade your upholstery, especially if you are using dark or natural fiber fabrics; so keep the furniture out of the direct rays.
  • Rearrange the furniture in your room from time to time, so that constant use won't wear out one piece of furniture much more quickly than the others in the room.
  • Turn cushions and pillows around on a weekly basis to extend the life of the fabric.
  • Loose cushions should be flipped and rotated frequently to minimize soiling and add to the longevity of your upholstery.
  • Move houseplants and flowers away from contact with upholstery fabrics.
  • If you plan to paint, refinish that antique table, or put on nail polish, be smart and cover your upholstered furniture to protect from spills.
  • Before you try to remove a stain or soil from your upholstery, you should determine the type of fabric involved. (You'll find the code on the deck label. If not, call the store you bought it from.) These codes indicate the type of fabric involved and suggest the best methods of cleaning and spot removal.

Inspiration for Home Office

Looking forward to designing a Home Office next month. The room is not very large (about 10x12). It does have decent natural light with one window facing the West. There is a great wall that will be perfect to line with bookcases, as there are many books and other crafty items to be stored. There will be enough room for a desk and hopefully after doing some field measuring next week, enough room for there to be a nice futon or daybed/chaise to double as a guest room. I'm imagining the wall opposite the window to have a fun art collage - perhaps this will be above the desk or maybe the desk will sit under the window.

here's a rough floor plan and layout.

some inspiration photos for the decor...

 stay tuned...
